Re: FTP issues HELP
You can turn off the logging of FTP errors - on the display settings screen Thanks. Good to know. I think I need to know that they're happening, for now. Presumably your ftp account is set up so that you are already in the public_html folder when you log in. So you need to leave the directory setti...

FTP issues HELP
I have always had FTP timeout errors on my uploads, but they didn't affect the functionality of my site http://www.3866n7874w.net/ . It was just annoying to have to clear the blinking error light. Also, about twice a year, I would have to have my site reset by my webhost, it would be blocked. It sta...

Re: Android app for Cumulus
I just opened mine in Notepad and it says "xml version 1.0". Everything works fine except Todays' Rainfall and rain Rate are reversed.
I would edit it, but I don't trust myself.

Re: Any electricians in the house? ;O)
One note on the fiberglass rods - After a year outside they look about the same, but the surface deteriorates a bit. You grab it for some reason with your bare hand, and get a thousand glass splinters that are too small to see, but you can feel them for a week.
Been there, done that.

Re: Android app for Cumulus
I was really thrilled with the new version of the app, which is now actually a gadget, if I'm using the terms correctly. It updated automatically on my phone. I went out to the market to see if I could donate, and saw the blurb on updating the xml file. The link was broken, so I came here. Guess I w...

Re: Sensor contact lost
My station is about 200 feet from my house. I was having regular lost contact problems. I was musing about increasing the transmitter voltage here . This weekend I was messing around and 'aimed' the transmitter at the house. Since then I've only had 1 error, a decrease by several orders of magnitude.

Re: Dayfile in Excel?
I think you need to pick DMY, then excel will know which number represents the day. Then after the import you can change the formatting.
I don't have access to my dayfile to experiment right now.

Re: Dayfile in Excel?
Crazy. I think I figured it out. Excel is importing the data from dayfile as a US date where it can. So it already thinks that 8/1/2010 is August 1st. When you reformat it, it doesn't change. The reason it does for Daj is that he's in the UK, so his Excel defaults the import to ddmmyy. What about wh...

Re: FO transmitter voltage / range relationship
there is more than simply the transmitter in there so you may damage other parts of the circuit with higher voltage. But it is an interesting idea for a small increase in range or if you typically get lost contact messages within a few weeks of installing new batteries. How would you propose to act...

FO transmitter voltage / range relationship
The specs for the Fine Offset transmitter link found here indicate a maximum recommended supply voltage of 5.4V. (6.0V absolute max). Has anybody tested the limits of this? Anyone fried their board out with too much voltage, or significantly improved the range and TX output by using 4.5V instead of ...

Re: Better screen for the FO temperature sensor box
I would stick to plastic or wood. Aluminium (hard putting that extra 'i' in there) is an excellent thermal conductor, so it will carry heat inward. Also, I'm betting it will block the transmitter. A thin layer of reflective paint or foil would accomplish what your suggesting, without the conductive ...

Re: Electric Fences
Try a capacitor from the fence to ground to drain those spikes. You could probably go to an auto parts store or junkyard and ask for a condenser. These are attached to distributors at the points (remember them?) to reduce RF interference in the radio.
