Re: Alternatives to WH1080
spider-related problems with the rain gauge on my WH1080. If you do a forum search on 'spiders', you will find what others have tried. For me, I glued a piece of what they use as fly netting on ventilator grills right across the bottom of my Fine Offset rain gauge covering every hole and the spider...

Re: Alternatives to WH1080
Not sure what you mean by 'surface spray'. Could you give a brand name for example, please?

Alternatives to WH1080
I'm having all sorts of spider-related problems with the rain gauge on my WH1080.
Are the rain gauges on any other weather stations more resistant to the problem? It's taken since 6th September for a new rain gauge to get so sticky with (presumably) spider web it's not working again.

Re: WH1080 - rain gauge not working
The diagnosis was spot on - there were several spiders and an earwig in residence, a couple of spider nests, and lots of cobwebs stopping the rocker from rocking. However I managed to break one of the plastic lugs taking it apart, so I think I'd better get another one anyway.

Re: WH1080 - rain gauge not working
Sorry for taking so long to come back, I have had a lot of other stuff going on in my life. I think I need to replace the gauge and then try to fix the old one at my leisure. I was able to buy a replacement wind vane from Maplins (some kind soul posted me the relevent URL), presumably I can get a ra...

Re: WH1080 - rain gauge not working
Thanks. I think I'll have to take it off and really clean it out.

Re: WH1080 - rain gauge not working
I managed to wiggle a little finger in and poke it up & down quite a bit, and it shows rain for that time. I'll put some more water through today to make sure it's OK. Do you know how many ml from a syringe should make the gauge tip? I couldn't hear it, but there was wind & traffic noise and...

Re: WH1080 - rain gauge not working
I will have to go out with the step ladder. I'll let you know what I find.

Re: WH1080 - rain gauge not working
No. I did pour some water through from a watering can and could see it dripping out of the bottom.

WH1080 - rain gauge not working
The rain gauge has stopped working on my WH1080. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement, please?

Bad temperature reading
I got a bad temperature reading, looks like the wrong sign. This was yesterday: 14.7 15.2 16.4 16.3 -15.9 15.7 15.7 15.4 15 This is the WH1081 station. Is this simply a glitch that happens very occasionally, something wrong with the station, a Cumulus problem? And what is the easiest way of correcti...

Re: Spare parts
The package from Maplins arrived a little while ago and my anemometer (looked up the correct word) should be working again.

Re: Webservers
Not sure a GUI is needed to run on a Raspberry Pi as they are usually run headless. Some kind of GUI is required. Not everyone wants to upload their data to a web site just to be able to look at it locally. I run my Pi headlessly, but I use VNC to view the desktop. The GUI wouldn't necessarily have...

Re: What screen resolution does your Cumulus PC use?
I never run anything full-screen...
Also I realise this is a fairly old poll, would have thought a very common screen size now is 1920 × 1080 which I guess has come along since this poll was started.

Re: Future data formats
I think ideally we would have a configuration choice of flat files or a database. Those of us that are sophisticated to want a database should also be able to extract the data from it as we require. However not sure if it would be easier from your PoV to do either flat files, or flat files plus a da...
