Re: STEVENSON SCREENS - CHEAP OPTION

UPDATE... Well it's now 2 years since it was installed and it has taken a bit of wear over that time. It has twisted a little vertically but is in one piece and still, at the moment, serves it's purpose. It may last a few more years hopefully before it disintegrates. I haven't come across anything s...

Any experience of these WX stations

Hi, hope this is OK to post here. I wonder if anyone has experience of the Excelvan WX stations. Due to now being a little disabled and unable to climb up the tower and on the roof to service and change batteries on my old W1080 system I was thinking of getting one of these new ones and fitting it o...

Re: STEVENSON SCREENS - CHEAP OPTION

Thought I'd just pop back in again since I started this article around 20 months ago and give an update. The main structure does seem to be sound although the base separated from the main carcass which looks like a failure of the glue, the base being plastic laminate (like gutter boards stuff) and t...

Re: Siezed wind direction sensor on WH1080 - Fixed

Hi Ken, the dimensions are... outer 10mm, inner 5mm and 4mm thick. Such as... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MINATURE-MODEL-BEARINGS-MR52-MR148-FREE-UK-NEXT-DAY-DELIVERY-/190636442881?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item2c62d14501 Plenty on ebay and you may as well get some extra as both the wind...

Siezed wind direction sensor on WH1080 - Fixed

The new bearing arrived and I climbed on roof to repair. Managed to swing the pole supporting the unit to the upside down position so that I could reach it standing on the roof ridge. Getting the old bearing off was not that easy; Trying to prize it off with a screwdriver each side did not work. The...

Re: Seized wind direction bearing on WH1080

Many thanks Alan; I realise now that the top section can just be replaced in any direction as all the sensors are underneath.

Will look through the sticky threads as well.

Mike.

Seized wind direction bearing on WH1080

I seem to remember a detailed article on this project but can't seem to find it via search. Any links please? I have ordered a new bearing, MR105ZZ as seen on another thread and hope that's the right one; nothing much to loose if it isn't, just £1.41 inc. P&P off ebay. Just wondering how you get...

Re: STEVENSON SCREENS - CHEAP OPTION

Well done Bill; it looks very smart. I did consider making one from scratch myself but with only a limited amount of woodworking tools I decided against it; it looked like too much work for me. I had constructed my previous one from small ready made panels which seemed difficult and expensive to obt...

Re: STEVENSON SCREENS - CHEAP OPTION

Hi Prodata, we had 35mm in approximately one hour. Hmm, we were showing 50mm at ESN in Wisbech Road - couldn't believe it when I saw the figure online at half-time (http://www.weatherlink.com/user/esnprodata/ - stats reset at midnight, but look at Storm on the Summary page for the current storm tot...

Re: STEVENSON SCREENS - CHEAP OPTION

@Repairman77: Sorry, totally OT here, but if you're monitoring this thread and should see this post, what rainfall did you measure at Littleport tonight (Tuesday 8th July)? I'd be interested in some corroboration. Hi Prodata, we had 35mm in approximately one hour. Very rare for us; and some thunder...

Re: STEVENSON SCREENS - CHEAP OPTION

Well done Cullom; but are they left in that position near to the fence? Ideally they need to be out in the open but I know it's not always possible. Mine is in the back garden but the whole back garden tends to be a heat trap so it always reads a degree or two above the temperature from the remote s...

Re: Poor old WH1080

Hi Michael; the rest of my system appears to be OK but of course you never know how bad it is until it snaps. I guess the plastic they use is resistant to UV but I guess there is a limit. I've moved the transmitter unit away from the plastic arm now and mounted it on the aluminium pole so it won't f...

Re: Poor old WH1080

Reckon so John, on the corner of Meadow Court, I take it you're the chap with the HF beam along Wisbech Road? Mike. Nothing so grand - we're in the Espace North Building and you'll see a Vantage Vue on a pole towards the main entrance gate. Not a perfect exposure by any means but it gives us some l...
