Ok, that was it!! I had to rebuild the counters by running the following in the two directories from a cmd prompt with elevated privileges: C:\Windows\SysWOW64>lodctr /R C:\Windows\SysWOW64>winmgmt.exe /RESYNCPERF C:\Windows\SysWOW64>cd ..\system32 C:\Windows\system32>lodctr /R Build 3107 is now run...

Thanks Mark and Hans for the extra information. The system is up to date with patches, but I think you've hit the nail on the head with the performance counters. The "System" counters are not present in perfmon (although lots of other subsystems are). I've found some articles on how to reb...

I have noticed many users try to use that type of updating: trying only to copy changed files. I think that is not the best method.
