Re: Lack of updates

GitHub is not only a home for high quality software. There's some good stuff, some bad stuff, and some ugly stuff. (And that's just my projects.) Anyone offended by anything they find is welcome to fork that project and do it better.

Re: WS3083 USB Connection problems

This complication did occur to me, and I wondered if it was why the synchronisation didn't work so well on solar stations; I keep meaning to ask Jim Easterbrook (who devised the scheme) for his thoughts. I came here today to see if you had any thoughts... I've got pywws users with 3080 type station...

Re: Splitting a FO signal

The weather station doesn't passively emit a signal that the computer listens to, it's actively "interrogated" by the computer. Sharing the station (or any other USB device) between two computers would require the computers to cooperate to ensure they didn't both try and talk to it at the ...

Re: Running on HDD with Raspberry Pi

Here's my take on the subject: http://jim-jotting.blogspot.co.uk/2013/ ... day-3.html I'm now using a 256 MByte SD card as a boot loader.

Using a separate /home partition makes operating system upgrades easier, as all my data and personal settings are unaffected.

Re: Phantom lost sensor contact alarms with Fine Offest

I haven't studied this in close detail (it's a bit difficult to reproduce reliably!) but I wouldn't be surprised if the data from the weather station shows lost contact before its own display does. The USB data needs to be marked as incomplete immediately, whereas the display can repeat the last val...

Re: how to connect the router directly to the FO ?

If (and it's a big IF) you could install OpenWrt (https://openwrt.org/) on the router then you might have a chance of running one of the small Linux weather station software options available.
There's a very high probability of 'bricking' the router when doing this sort of thing though.

Re: WH3080 "Station not Responding"

What margin do you allow for Steve? I've got a station that drifts at about 3½ seconds a day, so a 3 second margin wasn't enough to be sure of not causing USB lockups. I've tweaked pywws to measure the drift rate and continually adjust the time to avoid, but this is probably a step too far. A larger...

Re: Display issue

UK consumer law isn't so cut and dried. You are entitled to expect it to work for a time typical of appliances of that type, and I'd argue that 15 months is too short. Worth pushing them a bit, I'd say. (Ask to speak to the manager.)
I am not a lawyer.

Re: Rain gauge mounting bracket.

The funnel will be replaced when I find a better alternative. I assume any opaque plastic should be more UV resistant. Funnily enough that's not something they mention in funnel product descriptions.

Rain gauge mounting bracket.

The standard Fine Offset brackets are a bit wobbly for the rain gauge, which can lead to false readings. I've found an ideal replacement at B & Q ( http://www.diy.com/nav/build/building-materials/builders-metal-work/angle_bracket/Expamet-Heavy-Duty-Angle-Bracket-Zinc-150-x-90-x-63mm-9936462 ) fo...

New screen! Was: Yet another wind sensor improvement thread

I've built a new screen for the temperature / humidity sensors as well now, made from 9" square louvred vents. I need to make a better (more solid) roof, and could do with adding some spacers to create a larger gap between the inner and outer vents, but it's not looking too bad. https://farm8.s...

Yet another wind sensor improvement thread

I finally got round to implementing some ideas I've had over recent months, replacing my old wind sensors with the new ones I got when I bought my most recent Maplin "black" station. I've fitted longer cables, run the cables inside the mast, used an extension mast to raise the anemometer a...

Re: Problems with station communication: USB locks up comple

Well as it only occurs when the INDICATOR is showing full, or nearly full, I shall wait till that is so again, and be prepared with a USB monitor program to see what ensues. Alternatively, you could just manually clear the memory indicator every time it's half full, then according to your theory yo...

Re: Maplin station range issue

That's the great thing about the forum, there's always someone that's either had experience of the issue, or has an idea that's different from mine, and both are valid. Just wanted to say something like "amen brother" to that. But I need a non-religious equivalent, and <aol>me too</aol> d...

Re: Maplin station range issue

If the transmitter is almost directly above the receiver (which is how it sounds from the description) then each could be in or near a null in the other's aerial response. Try tilting the transmitter and receiver away from their normal positions and see if that makes a difference.
