As an update:
If I start Firefox ESR first I can then run mono and CumulusMX.exe without an issue, however when I Ctr-C the terminal the machine restarts....

The issue looks to be resolved, I removed the external temperature sensors and added one locally to the data logger and the temperature was -70C ish so the error had to be outside.
