Re: Old Cumulus user, new Davis user

I don't believe however that the Vue costs 10 times as much is any-where's near correct. On Amazon.co.uk, best price for a Davis Vantage Vue is £373.69 plus £176.88 for the USB data logger = £550.57. The Fine Offset from Maplin was £50 or often even £40 when on offer. That's more than 10x as much b...

Re: MX build 3044 - twitter uploads

I'm not sure what to do about twitter, Whatever you do, don't remove the production of the tweetable text. Once we have the text string, there are fairly easy workarounds such as viewtopic.php?f=4&t=16099#p131775 . Basically, it was unfortunately a mistake for Steve to have tried to have all users ...

Re: Old Cumulus user, new Davis user

Can you guys tell me why the Davis Vantage Vue is worth so much cash?

I too have a Fine Offset and it's been great for years, and the Davis Vantage Vue looks like a toy by comparison. Why does it cost like 10x as much and is it worth it?

Re: Twitter upload problem

BigOkie,

It would have been kind if you'd given me the credit for doing all the hard work and writing that script a few months ago (you've copied it from viewtopic.php?f=4&t=16099#p131775 with only minor changes!)

Re: Instructions: Installing CumulusMX on Raspberry Pi

Just to prove it, mine crashed the other day. I happened to notice nothing was being uploaded to the internet. The Pi was still running when I logged in and a simple 'sudo reboot' fixed everything. If I hadn't been there, it would have been sorted overnight. The following crontab line will run on ev...

Re: CumulusMX backend crashes if weather station's USB is unplugged

It would be nice if the backend would carry on running and resume accepting data if the USB cable fault was rectified. In the real world, and not during testing, it might be caused a momentary disturbance of the cable, and it would be a shame if this required the backend to be restarted. I was aske...

Re: Email notification when no update

Instead of just getting an email, this should automatically restore the Pi even if you're not there! Try the following - just make your Raspberry Pi reboot each day, or amend to make it reboot every few hours depending on what is needed. You should investigate and fix whatever is making it crash tho...

Re: Twitter problem with Cumulus v1.9.4 (1099)

I have a workaround for this problem that will help if you are using a Linux machine (eg Raspberry Pi) to run Cumulus MX. It involves using Cumulus to generate the text string to be tweeted, then using a separate simple (Python) program to tweet the text string when required (eg every hour). I've go...

Re: Instructions: Installing CumulusMX on Raspberry Pi

Thanks for finding an error in my instructions. The "For some reason" was that I had got a long hyphen (En-dash) instead of a short one in the code section saying sudo crontab -e Now fixed. Daily reboot is not particularly needed. It's just generally a good idea on any computer running anything cont...

Re: Google map message on website

It's not working that well, Ray! Your site is showing whatever XXX Woking Road is closest to the viewer (Google knows everything ....)! You should be able to switch it to a postcode without ill effect (and also hiding the address at which we know there's a weather station in the garden ...). Try cha...

Re: Not Posting on Twitter

Yes, Steve, that was the problem.
I enabled autoupdate in Settings / Internet Settings / Web/FTP settings ,and am now happily tweeting both the weather text string and my webcam image at @LiesbergDorf

Re: Not Posting on Twitter

Simon, I'm obviously not being clear, or am thicker than I think! I've not done anything like this before and it's not obvious what to do. What do I need to do to tell Cumulus to 'process' my webtags twitter.txt file? I guess it means adding the file into Settings / Extra Files, but that doesn't see...

Re: USB stop responding

I don't have the same equipment, but here are some thoughts. Can you tell if either the Pi or Weather Station is 'crashing' & rebooting? or do both stay running with failed data collection? There are suggestions that adding USB hub helps some people. The hub should not do much except ensure that the...
