Re: Twitter problem

As has been said before, the underlying problem is that the total number of tweets from all Cumulus users added together exceeds a limit imposed by Twitter. The only real fix is to set up your own personal API with Twitter, then use a non-Cumulus program to send the tweets (still using the text made...

Re: Using the new WU API

I've no experience with the API, but the whole new look interface at WU this week seems to be buggy. Amongst errors I've noted are: * Units wrong . Temps in Fahrenheit marked as C Capture.JPG . Elevation in ft marked as m or no units at all . Not using my default units * Search for locations doesn't...

Re: Cumulus MX Fail

Got error message stating cannot connect to 127.0.01:8998 Connection refused. I might add I am currently using the v1.9.4 version of Cumulus, that runs on port 9, that works great, but since support is not longer available for it, I thought I would try the MX Version. I have the Serial Version of t...

Re: Photos of the insides of Fine Offset sensors.

I'm wondering why you'd want to bother with a solar charger? A pair of AA alkaline from Aldi lasts more than 2 years, and even if you's s on the roof you'd need to be up there more often than that to clean the spiders out of the sensors ...

Re: Build 3048 - deleting Cumulus.ini and other errors

I think it's a hardware problem - failed SD card. Apparently there is a strange 'fail' type for SD cards whereby writes seem to work at the time, but on reboot all changes are lost and the card content reverts to where it was. Further checks show that's what I have - very odd. Seems to have develope...

Build 3048 - deleting Cumulus.ini and other errors

I just tried upgrading from build 3043 to 3048, keeping my data, backup webfiles and a copy of Cumulus.ini as is recommended. When I run the new version: - it runs briefly - it deletes the copy of Cumulus.ini that I've copied into the new installation - the local webpage http://*.*.*.*:8998 is like ...

Re: Instructions: Installing CumulusMX on Raspberry Pi

The strange thing is that the two new files SSH and wpa_supplicant.conf that i typed as per instructions are on the SD card on the PC but after putting the card into the pi and plugging in the power if i then look at the SD card again on the PC they have disappeared!? I have typed my SSID and SSID ...

Re: Maplin Aercus not charging

Swapping the rechargeable batteries was the right first move. Did you check for dirty battery contacts? Is the solar panel dirty? Otherwise I saw an ebay advert for a guy who does refurbishing - you could contact him https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAPLIN-AERCUS-WI-FI-SOLAR-PROF-WEATHER-STATION-OUTDOOR-U...

Re: Rain readings in exceptionally windy weather

More often the problem is the other way round - high or gusty wind causes false (high) rain measurements. The wind batters your hardware and makes the see-saw mechanism of the rain gauge tip back and forward, which is recorded as rain even if it is perfectly dry. A secure mounting should help.

Re: Install CumulusMX

Glad you found my installation instructions helpful. I'm happy to update them if others can tell me what's wanted - trouble is, I only have a Fine Offset and can't test variations for other stations. Updating the Build isn't usually needed - mcrossley is (at least so far) just making minor tweaks th...

Re: Old Cumulus user, new Davis user

I don't believe however that the Vue costs 10 times as much is any-where's near correct. On Amazon.co.uk, best price for a Davis Vantage Vue is £373.69 plus £176.88 for the USB data logger = £550.57. The Fine Offset from Maplin was £50 or often even £40 when on offer. That's more than 10x as much b...

Re: MX build 3044 - twitter uploads

I'm not sure what to do about twitter, Whatever you do, don't remove the production of the tweetable text. Once we have the text string, there are fairly easy workarounds such as viewtopic.php?f=4&t=16099#p131775 . Basically, it was unfortunately a mistake for Steve to have tried to have all users ...

Re: Old Cumulus user, new Davis user

Can you guys tell me why the Davis Vantage Vue is worth so much cash?

I too have a Fine Offset and it's been great for years, and the Davis Vantage Vue looks like a toy by comparison. Why does it cost like 10x as much and is it worth it?

Re: Twitter upload problem

BigOkie,

It would have been kind if you'd given me the credit for doing all the hard work and writing that script a few months ago (you've copied it from viewtopic.php?f=4&t=16099#p131775 with only minor changes!)
