Re: wind direction is too sensitive
Understand this problem also. I thought about ways to dampen the vane without cutting down on its sensitivity I arrived at the following: I took apart the windvane and put some silicone oil above the bearing and filled it with some felt and an O ring to keep the oil from leaking out of the bearing ...

Re: WH1081 USB connection fault has developed
It's rather pointless too, these days, as it only has one news item. I'll change it. Thank you steve, it's nice to know that everyone's opinions are taken into account. Sadly, things weren't so great with the WS, after like 14hs of every minute updates, the lock up happened again. I'm getting the 5...

Re: WH1081 USB connection fault has developed
Tried the diode method to no avail, I have my 1081 plugged to a TP-Link 1043nd. Too lazy to measure final voltage. Anyway, I have a passive USB hub in the middle, so my guess is that voltage now is around 4 volt. After 2 days the failure repeated. Now I'm trying a (better?) thicker (but shorter) cab...

Re: Fine Offset WH1081 cable length?
Alan, thanks again for your kind and complete response. Honestly I'm kind of frustrated, so I'm not particularly excited about doing more testing, but I'll have to. I'm almost sure that I didn't mix up the wires' polarity, but then again, it's 20mts of wire and two connection boxes. The LCD shows &q...

Re: Fine Offset WH1081 cable length?
Hi Alan, thank you for your response. Most of the time it's stuck at 22.5°, sometimes 337°, and sometimes 200 something. But mostly 22.5 or what I infer is out of range, that is 2880.0 (yes, four figures). You can check it out here: http://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=I...

Re: Fine Offset WH1081 cable length?
Hi, I know this is a very old topic. I've extended the wires to about 20m (60ft) and everything is working properly, except for the wind direction sensor, and I believe the reason is that (I think) it works by detecting small ressistance variation, and due to the length of the wire, the values are o...
